Our Story

So, one day this social worker met this Marine Veteran at a community event and they instantly knew they wanted to combine their passions and help fill a gap in veteran services right here in Southwest Florida. In that moment, the heart of Basecamp was born. Although they both bring years of experience to the table, they humbly stand on the shoulders of giants already helping veterans in their community and simply want to come alongside those already in the trenches. As other providers rush in and attend to the immediate physical needs, Basecamp comes with wrap around service and boots on the ground support to equip the veteran for the long walk to healing ahead.

At our Basecamp, we extend a heartfelt invitation to veterans from all backgrounds, including military, law enforcement and first responders, to unload their burdens. We recognize the challenging paths they have travelled to reach us, yet we also celebrate their remarkable courage.

We understand that certain physical needs must be addressed first and we will refer the veteran to one of the many amazing providers in our community for housing, clothing, food etc. We can make referrals out of county and even out of state if necessary. We also know that only taking care of the exterior of the veteran leaves them to bleed out from invisible wounds incurred from their time in the field. Basecamp wants to help heal the whole veteran who may be struggling with Isolation, Addiction or Suicide with warriors supporting warriors groups, community services (i.e. service dog therapy) and an introduction to the saving grace of King Jesus.

WE ARE AN UNAPOLOGETICALLY CHRISTIAN BASED ORGANIZATION.

The Warrior's Journey

Ernie Bywater, Director of Project Management at The Warriors Journey and US Air Force Veteran

Mike and I had the honor of meeting Ernie Bywater in November 2023 at a Convoy of Hope community event. We heard about his organization, The Warrior's Journey, and all the work they do to heal the invisible wounds of veterans. We were inspired and endeavored to do what we could here in swfl to help our local veterans. Ernie has been coaching us since January 2024 and has given us his support and resources to get Basecamp up and running. He is a giant of faith, a pillar in his community and a true blessing to Mike and myself. This short clip shows his support as we launched our first interest meetng with members of the faith, non-profit and business circles.
