Co-Founder
Laura Allard, Social Worker
Laura met Mike and Ernie in November 2023 while helping lead the Veteran services tent at Convoy of Hope. She has worked in social services for the past 30 years in Lee County with fragile populations, the last with homeless veterans. Advocating for veterans is a passion for Laura as she has military members in her own family and has seen firsthand throughout her community the ravages of wars that sadly soldiers too often bring home. Laura is deeply committed to aiding veterans overcome their unseen scars through peer to peer support initiatives, community engagement and a profound understanding of Jesus Christ's teachings.

Director of Community Engagement
Jackleen Hurd, US Marine Corps Veteran
Jackleen Hurd is a Marine Corps veteran, originally from Detroit, Michigan, now residing in Southwest Florida. She is living proof that faith and support conquered her demons of addiction. Since getting out of the Corps in 2013, isolation, depression and addiction were invisble wounds she struggled with. She comes to Basecamp to give back to the veteran community because she knows firsthand how hard it is to do it alone.

Mentor and Partner
Ernie Bywater, US Airforce Veteran
Ernie is the Director of Project Management at The Warriors Journey and a US Air Force veteran 1982-1997. His experiences in the Air Force include avionics technician, Military Training Instructor and Tech lead supervisor. After their military service Ernie and his wife Carrie felt that the Lord was leading them to full time ministry, spending 17 years in pastoral ministry serving Northern Michigan. Ernie has a BA in pastoral ministry, from Southeastern University and a Master’s in organizational leadership from Evangel University.
